First trailer for Dexter Fletcher's directorial debut Wild Bill

After earning rave reviews at the London Film Festival last October, the heart-warming family crime-drama Wild Bill is gearing up for release in the UK and the first trailer has just been released courtesy of distributors The Works. The directorial debut of English actor and former child star Dexter Fletcher (Bugsy Malone, Press Gang, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Band of Brothers, Kick-Ass), Wild Bill features a strong cast of British talent including Charlie Creed-Miles (Hereafter), Will Poulter (Son of Rambow), Liz White (The Woman in Black) Andy Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Jaime Winstone (Anuvahood), Jason Flemyng (X-Men: First Class), Olivia Williams (An Education), Leo Gregory (Tristan & Isolde), Iwan Rheon (Misfits), Sammy Williams (Attack the Block) and newcomer Charlotte Spencer.

The Amazing Spider-Man trailer 2 hits the web

Yesterday, Sony gave fans an early look at six minutes of Marc Webb's upcoming Spider-Man reboot with a series of special sneak peek screenings across the globe and this morning they've followed that up with the online release of the second theatrical trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, giving us a new look at Andrew Garfield's web-crawler in action.

Along with Garfield, The Amazing Spider-Man stars Emma Stone as love-interest Gwen Stacy, along with Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors / The Lizard, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Sally Field as Aunt May, Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy, Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson, C. Thomas Howell as Ray, Irrfan Khan as Nels van Adder (a.k.a. Proto-Goblin), Cambell Scott as Richard Parker and Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker.

The Super Bowl took place in the States last night, which as always, provides the Hollywood studios with the opportunity to grab some hugely-expensive ad space to show off their big cinematic offerings for the year ahead. Although notable absentees included hotly-anticipated releases such as The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man, there was still a veritable feast of movie goodness on display, including TV spots for the likes of 21 Jump Street, Act of Valor, Battleship, The Dictator, Dr. Suess' The Lorax, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Hunger Games, John Carter and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D, while Marvel also gave superhero fans a brand new look at Joss Whedon's epic ensemble The Avengers and Sony offered up another glimpse of the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

The Hunger Games gets a new trailer

With less than two months to go before it arrives in cinemas, Lionsgate have just released a second theatrical trailer for The Hunger Games - director Gary Ross' (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) hotly-anticipated big screen take on Suzanne Collins' acclaimed post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel of the same name.

Adapted by Collins with revisions from screenwriter Billy Ray (Shattered Glass, State of Play) and budgeted at $100 million, The Hunger Games sees Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone, X-Men: First Class) as the sixteen-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen, and features a strong supporting cast that includes Josh Hutcherson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), Woody Harrelson (Rampart), Liam Hemsworth (The Expendables 2), Elizabeth Banks (Man on a Ledge), Donald Sutherland (Don't Look Now), Stanley Tucci (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Wes Bentley (American Beauty).

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. The book is the first entry in Collins' 'Hunger Games' trilogy and Lionsgate have already announced that cameras will roll on the second installment - Catching Fire - later this year, with Ross and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) already on board.

A fantastic first trailer for Ridley Scott's Prometheus

For the first time since his cult classic Blade Runner back in 1982, Ridley Scott will venture back to the science fiction genre with Prometheus - a prequel of sorts to his seminal sci-fi/horror Alien, which - after a seemingly endless stream of teaser previews through-out the week - has finally made its way online ahead of the film's release next summer.

Prometheus features an all-star cast that includes Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Charlize Theron (Snow White and the Huntsman), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Idris Elba (Thor), Guy Pearce (Animal Kingdom), Logan Marshall-Green (Devil) and Rafe Spall (Anonymous). It is based on a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour), with rewrites by Damon Lindelof (Lost, Cowboys & Aliens and the as yet untitled Star Trek sequel).

Although Prometheus is set in the same universe as Alien, Scott has confirmed that the Xenomorph won't make an appearance in the $150m 3D production. However, it will answer the question about the origins of the mysterious 'Space Jockey' from the 1979 original. It's been a great week for new trailers, what with The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hitting earlier in the week, but I think this first look at Prometheus could possibly be my favourite of the three. It looks like Scott is set to deliver some stunning sci-fi visuals and I can't wait to see more.

Prometheus is scheduled for release in the U.K. on June 1st, 2012 and will hit North America the following week.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey trailer takes us back to Middle-earth

With just under a year to go before the arrival of the first installment of Peter Jackson's two-part Lord of the Rings prequel - and ten years after the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - the filmmaker has taken us back to Middle-earth with the first official trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which was released online in the early hours of this morning along with a brand new poster from the film.

It's been a long road for The Hobbit film adaptation. Jackson first came on board as executive producer four years ago, only for MGM's financial troubles to cause a number of delays that eventually led to the departure of the original director, Guillermo del Toro, who shares scriptwriting credits with Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. However, principal photography finally got underway this past March with back-to-back shoots for both The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, and now with the arrival of the first trailer, the countdown to the arrival of the $500m-budgeted epic has officially begun.

The trailer sees LOTR alumni Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Andy Serkis (Gollum), Elijah Wood (Frodo) and Ian Holm (Bilbo) reprising their roles, but apart from Gandalf the focus is clearly on the newcomers to the cast. Taking centre stage of course is Martin Freeman as the younger Bilbo Baggins, who is joined by Richard Amitage (Thorin Oakenshield) and the entire Company of Dwarves - Aidan Turner (Kili), Dean O'Gorman (Fili), Graham McTavish (Dwalin), Ken Stott (Balin), Mark Hadlow (Dori), Jed Brophy (Nori), Adam Brown (Ori), John Callen (Oin), Peter Hambleton (Gloin), William Kircher (Bifur), James Nesbitt (Bofur) and Stephen Hunter (Bombur). An Unexpected Journey will hit cinemas on December 14th, 2012, while There And Back Again is slated for release the following year on December 13th, 2013.

The Dark Knight Rises trailer 2 finally arrives online in all its HD glory

There's a pretty good chance you've heard about the second theatrical trailer from The Dark Knight Rises by now. You know, the one that's been popping up online in low-quality bootleg form since the middle of last week, and the one that's been playing before Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in North America over the weekend. Well, after driving fans crazy with anticipation these past few days, Warner Bros. have finally caved in and released a shiny HD version of said trailer to the internet, which you can check out below.

Running at just over two minutes, the full-length trailer delivers plenty of new footage and features the likes of a greying Bruce Wayne / Batman (Christian Bale), a menacing Bane (Tom Hardy) and an out-of-costume Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), along with supporting players such as John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine), Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard). It also provides some tantalising glimpses at the epic action sequences that Christopher Nolan has in store for us with his third and final Batman feature, such as the destruction of the Gotham Rogues stadium and the epic Winter showdown between Batman and Bane. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance gets a new trailer

The dust has barely settled on 2011's cinematic superhero showdown but we're already just two months away from the start of next year's action as Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance revs its way into cinemas and - with the release date fast approaching - Yahoo Movies have now debuted a second theatrical trailer to compliment the new poster that arrived earlier in the week.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance sees Nicolas Cage return as Marvel's anti-hero Johnny Blaze, with Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor taking over from Mark Steven Johnson, who helmed Cage's first Ghost Rider outing in the poorly-received 2007 original. Cage is joined in the cast by Idris Elba (Thor), Ciarán Hinds (John Carter), Violante Placido (The American) and Christopher Lambert (Highlander), while Johnny Whitworth (Limitless) also stars as the villainous Blackout.

The sequel recently screened at Aint It Cool News founder Harry Knowles' 'Butt-Numb-A-Thon' to near universal derision and with Cage's diminishing track record (see Season of the Witch, Drive Angry, Justice and Trespass for this year alone), it doesn't seem to be looking good for Spirit of Vengeance. Still, the latest trailer is certainly an improvement over the first and it looks like there could be some entertaining action sequences on offer, if nothing else. Take a look for yourself...

Stallone! Statham! Willis! Schwarzenegger! Van Damme! Norris! Yes, it's The Expendables 2 trailer!

It's really shaping up to be a pretty great week for movie trailers, what with the arrival of the first look at Men in Black III and G.I. Joe: Retribution a few days back and new trailers for The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey expected to hit tomorrow. But, as we wait with baited breath for a glimpse at Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie, Sylvester Stallone and company have slipped under the radar with the release of the first teaser for next year's action ensemble The Expendables 2.

A sequel to 2010's The Expendables (obviously), EX2 sees Stallone vacate the director's chair in favour of Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The Mechanic), with the aging action star returning to the cast as Barney Ross alongside Jason Statham (Lee Christmas), Jet Li (Yin Yang), Dolph Lundgren (Gunnar Jensen), Randy Couture (Toll Road) and Terry Crews (Hale Caesar), while there are also expanded roles for Bruce Willis (Mr. Church) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Trench). Newcomers to the cast include Liam Hemsworth, Yu Nan, Chuck Norris, Scott Adkins and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Check out the synopsis and teaser trailer below...

Update - we've also added the new poster, which AICN got their hands on today (Friday). Appararently the first wasn't official, or something like that.

The Expendables 2 is set for release on August 17th, 2012, while the UK date is yet to be confirmed.

Yo Joe! It's the first G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer

Last night Paramount Pictures released the first trailer G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the upcoming sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which sees John M. Chu (Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) taking over directing duties from Stephen Sommers (boo hiss) for the second installment of the live-action movie series.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation features the return of Channing Tatum as Duke, Ray Park as Snake Eyes, Arnold Vosloo as Zartan and Lee Byung-hun as Strom Shadow, although Chu has overseen near wholesale changes to the cast, with the likes of Sienna Miller, Christopher Eccleston, Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Dennis Quaid all given their marching orders. Instead, newcomers to the franchise include Dwayne Johnson (Fast Five) as Roadblock, D.J. Cotrona (Dear John) as Flint, RZA (American Gangster) as Blind Master, Elodie Yung (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Jinx, Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) as Lady Jaye, Ray Stevenson (Thor) as Firefly, Stephen Martines (General Hospital) as Cross-Country, Eddie Hargitay (The Superagent) as Tunnel Rat, Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park) as Mouse and Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton, the original G.I. Joe. As you'll see from the trailer, Cobra Commander is also featured, although there's no word yet as to who has stepped in as a replacement for Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I must say, that was way, way better than I'd expected. Now, let's hope they kill off Channing Tatum early on, or have him "slip into a coma" at the very least.

Here come the Men in Black yet again in the first Men in Black III trailer

2012 is really shaping up to be a busy year for comic book fans, but while the likes of The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man have been grabbing all the headlines, there is another panel-based property heading into cinemas next year and no, we're not talking about Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Yes, it's those Men in Black - Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones - who are reprising their roles as Agents J and K almost ten years after their last adventure for the sci-fi comedy sequel Men in Black III, which has just received its first official trailer courtesy of Sony Pictures.

Along with Smith and Jones, the third outing sees the return of Barry Sonnenfeld and Steven Spielberg as director and executive producer respectively, while Rip Torn is also back as Chief Zed, head of the MIB. Newcomers to the cast include Josh Brolin (True Grit) as a young Agent K, Emma Thompson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2) as Agent O, Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2) as young Agent O, Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) as the villainous Yaz and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) as Lilly, girlfriend to Agent J.

Indie Corner – Trailer for the multi-award winning indie thriller Rage

Inspired by Steven Spielberg’s classic TV movie Duel and films such as John Carpenter’s Halloween, writer-director Chris Witherspoon’s (Middle Man) suspense thriller Rage has enjoyed a fantastic run on the independent festival circuit this past year, picking up a host of accolades across America and Europe, in addition to some strong press from the likes of Film Threat and Fangoria, who described the $100k feature as “really, really good… a tight, taut indie thriller with enough action, suspense and intrigue to fill three movies.”

Rage tells the story of Dennis Twist, a suburban, 30-something who unintentionally provokes the wrath of a dark, mysterious, homicidal motorcyclist and must fight for his very life. The confrontation with “The Biker” escalates into a daylong battle of cat-and-mouse, concluding in an extremely violent rampage. Witherspoon also features on screen, where he is joined by a cast of fresh talented actors including Rick Crawford (Wild Sunflowers) and Audrey Walker (The Waiting List) – check out the trailer here…

Channel 4 release a trailer for This Is England '88

British filmmaker Shane Meadows' hard-hitting four-part television series This Is England '86 was certainly one the TV highlights of 2010 and now the gang heading back to the small screen once again for a new three-part festive follow-up entitled This Is England '88, which has just received its first trailer courtesy of Channel 4.

As with its predecessor, This Is England '88 is scripted by Meadows and Jack Thorne (Skins) and sees the return of Thomas Turgoose, Joseph Gilgun and Vicky McClure as Shaun, Woody and Lol - roles they originated in Meadows' acclaimed 2006 feature This Is England. The three hour-long episodes are set to air on Channel 4 over consecutive nights starting December 13th, and the series will serve as a lead-in to Meadows' next TV project, This Is England '90, which is set to focus on the ecstasy-fuelled rave scene of the era and is expected to arrive some time in the New Year.

Pixar's fairytale adventure Brave gets a new trailer and poster

After spending the last two years releasing sequels to their earlier hits in the sublime Toy Story 3 and the not-so-sublime Cars 2, Pixar Animation Studios will return to original material for the first time since 2008's Up with thirteenth feature, Brave, which has just received its first full length theatrical trailer to go with the poster that arrived earlier this week.

Directed by Mark Andrews (story supervisor on the likes of The Incredibles, Cars and Ratatouille and co-writer of Disney's upcoming fantasy epic John Carter) and Brenda Chapman (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Cars), Brave is Pixar's first foray into the realm of the fairytale, and also the first of their films to feature a female protagonist, Princess Merida, who is voiced by Kelly Macdonald (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2). Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror both get their first trailers

Echoing the cinematic showdown between rival asteroid flicks Deep Impact and Armageddon back in 1998, next year sees the release of two competing big screen adaptations of the Snow White story, both of which have received their first trailers in the past few days.

First up is Snow White and the Hunstman, with acclaimed commercials director Rupert Sanders delivering a reimagining of the classic fairytale that sees the Huntsman becoming Snow White's protector, joining her in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen. Twilight's Kristen Stewart takes on the role of Snow White, leading a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the Huntsman, Charlize Theron (Prometheus) as the Evil Queen and Sam Claflin (United) as Prince Charmant, while Ian McShane (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Nick Frost (The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn), Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Ray Winstone (Hugo), Bob Hoskins (A Christmas Carol), Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Johnny Harris (Black Death) and Brian Gleeson (Wake Wood) star as the 'Eight' Dwarves.

Hot on the heels of the Snow White and the Huntsman trailer came out first look at rival Mirror Mirror, with director Tarsem Singh (Immortals) seemingly delivering a much more faithful and light-hearted adaptation of the Grimm fairytale. Lily Collins (Abduction) stars as Snow White alongside Julia Roberts' (Larry Crowne) evil Queen Clementianna and Armie Hammer's (J. Edgar) Prince Andrew Alcott. Cast as the Seven Dwarves are Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants), Jordan Prentice (In Bruges), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen), Sebastian Saraceno (Bedtime Stories), Ronald Lee Clark (Epic Movie), Martin Klebba (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End) and Joe Gnoffo (The Benchwarmers), while the film also features Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) as the King and Nathan Lane (The Producers) as the Queen's servant.

Mirror Mirror will be the first movie out of the gate when it hits cinemas on March 16th, with Snow White and the Huntsman scheduled to arrive on June 1st, 2012. Judging by the early response to both trailers it would seem that Snow White and the Hunstman is heading for victory, or can Mirror Mirror defy the odds and prove to be the fairest of them all (or should I say both)?

Indie Corner - The end of the world is nigh in the trailer for Apocalypse, CA

If you thought mankind had it bad in recent 'end of the world' efforts such as Contagion and Melancholia, then spare a thought for the inhabitants of Apocalypse, CA, who find themselves having to contend with a horde of unfortunate problems including a massive asteriod, sex-inducing drugs and a three-hundred foot giant!

The feature debut of indie filmmaker Chad Peter (Roleplayed) and featuring impressive visual effects from artists Ryan Wieber (Ryan vs. Dorkman) and Teague Chrystie (The Pacific), Apocalypse, CA has just received a new trailer ahead of its release on DVD in North America next month - check it out here, along with the synopsis...

Mysterious radio personality and apparent part-time genie, 'Sassy Boots' (Elizabeth Sandy) takes it upon herself to grant John Parsons (Nick Mathis) a few wishes five days before the world is to be destroyed by an asteroid. Only problem is John's wishes aren't exactly calculated, or even planned - the end result of which is a situation far worse than before.

Accompanied by his brother Hank (Alexander Cardinale), Hank's friend Renee (Anne McDaniels) and John's childhood crush Jacklyn (Erin Bodine), John and friends take the high road to Palm Springs - otherwise known as the 'epicenter' where the asteroid will first strike Earth. With a 'bite the bullet' approach, John & friends learn a little more about life and each other, all leading up to a wild climax of booze, sex, fantasy, and guns-a-blazin' desert adventure.


Apocalypse, CA is released in the U.S. and Canada on December 13th and you can pre-order the DVD and find out more about the film at the official website.

Indie Corner - Trailer for the independent Canadian drama Cody Fitz

In July of this year, 19-year-old Canadian filmmaker Kurtis David Harder and a group of teenagers shot the feature film Cody Fitz, a low-budget drama shot on the Red MX camera in Alberta, Canada. The film is scheduled to be released next summer, and the first trailer has its way online earlier this week. Take a look at the synopsis and trailer below...

Cody Fitz focuses around two childhood friends, Cody and Tom who've both recently moved out on their own. Tom, an affluent, confident mentor to Cody, feels the need to always be helping Cody, with his social life, work, and figuring out living situations, he almost acts as a guide.

Instead of accepting or denying help, also fueled by the recent absence of his girlfriend, Cody starts to move into his own manufactured world, where he starts to visualize himself committing suicide in different ways. Tom and Cody, along with a number of other friends plan a trip to Tom's cabin, outside of the city to kick off break.

As the trip slowly nears, the small gap between reality and the world Cody immerses himself in starts to break.

Indie Corner - Trailer for new short film adaptation of Stephen King's The Boogeyman

Based on the short story by Stephen King, The Boogeyman is the ambitious new short from Irish writer-director Gerald Lough (Deviant, The Scanner) and after a series of successful festival screenings around the world, it is set to be shown in Ireland this week, taking centre stage as the opening film of this year's Waterford Film Festival on November 4th.

Starring Simon Fogarty (Shackled) and Michael Parle (The Looking Glass) and featuring make up effects by Julie Ann Ryan (The Tudors, Leap Year), Lough's 'Dollar Baby' is a faithful adaptation of the wonderfully creepy tale, which was first published in Cavalier in 1973 before making it to bookshelves as part of King's 1978 collection, Night Shift.

When Andrew Billings (Fogarty) goes to see a psychologist to explain how an evil creature that lives in his closet is responsible for the deaths of his three children he is met with scepticism. An overview of M:I-GP (as I'm calling it) trailer 2 would be that it subscribes to a typical trailer format; it starts with some plot exposition and quickly hits the mark of fast edits covering the cast so we know all the faces involved, and treats us to some tantalising snippets of action with key lines of dialogue to add to the tension.

But let's go deeper than that and break it down. What do we actually see, hear, and learn about this new 'Mission'?

PLOT: Ethan Hunt and the IMF team are framed for a bombing at the Kremlin and they must work alone to clear their names and find the true culprits.

"The Russians are classifying this as undeclared act of war... The President has initiated Ghost Protocol."

'Ghost Protocol', we can now assume is a term for the shutting down of the IMF.

As for the rest of the storyline, it is all kept a mystery and that is a good thing. We don't want to be going into the IMAX knowing everything that's going to happen and why!

CHARACTERS: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise): Hunt is taking the lead as usual, with the rest of his IMF helping out. Most of the action centres on him. Long hair, although not as layered as it was in M:I-2. Yes, this is important.

Brandt (Jeremy Renner): We don't know Brandt's role yet although Hunt includes him when he says “We’re all that’s left of the IMF”. What we do know is the men will have conflict:

"Who are you really, Brandt?"
"We all have our secrets, don't we, Ethan?"

Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg): As in M:I:III, Benji appears to be the film's comic relief, although his inclusion in the trailer with dialogue suggests he'll have a much more significant role this time around.

Jane Carter (Paula Patton): Not much is known, except that she is a new character to the franchise and an IMF agent. A possible love interest for Hunt, as they are seen kissing at one point.

Trevor Hanaway (Josh Holloway): Nothing known about this character. Trailer suggests he is IMF. He appears to be filling the Jonathan Rhys Meyers role from M:I:III.

Various websites says Ving Rhames will be reprising his role as Luther Stickell form the three entries. Rhames is missing from both M:I-GP trailers, so we can only assume he has a small role in this latest outing.

Unlike the casting of Oscar winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman in M:I:III, we know nothing about the 'bad guys' at the moment. From the trailer it would appear actors Michael Nyqvist, Léa Seydoux, and possibly Anil Kapoor are taking these roles.

ACTION: The M:I series is full of spectacular action set pieces, each a signature of that particular director's filmmaking style. From this trailer, Brad Bird seems to be packing in as much action as the other 3 films combined!

Kremlin Explosion: Hunt gets caught up in the blast. CG effects look great!


Attack on the Secretary's car: Love how Bird has slowed down the crash scene here, without turning it in to something Guy Ritchie would do.

Car crash in the desert: In the previous 3 films, each trailer has shown Hunt involved in near-death stunt. Helicopter crash in the first; riding through the flames on his bike in the second; and getting thrown into a car from a missile attack in the third. Here, we see a car flip and crash, narrowly missing Hunt. Again, the effects look great.


Fight in a parking lot?: Very quick editing here, but it appears Hunt is fighting in a car as it is dropping, and he then rolls out clutching a silver briefcase. It looks like the same cylindrical building shown near the trailer’s start.

Car chase in India: Again, not much is shown here, except Hunt and Carter driving at high speed in the brand new BMW i8. Car looks superb!

Brandt does a ‘Mission: Impossible’ of his own: One shot shows Brandt replicating the famous scene from De Palma’s film where Hunt breaks in to CIA headquarters. Again, we know nothing more than this.


Burj Khalifa break-in: This is what M:I-GP has become known for in its production so far. The trailer only shows us a few glimpses of what promises to be the tentpole sequence in the movie. In the teaser we saw Hunt in free fall towards and open window, but here we see him not only jump out of the world’s tallest building, but also run down it too. Shot in IMAX, this could be the best scene in the M:I franchise to date. And that really is Cruise on the side of the building, no CGI, no stunt man.


With this little insight, watch the trailer again and count the days until its release!

Angelina Jolie’s In the Land of Blood and Honey gets its first trailer

We’ve all known for a while Angelina Jolie has been directing a film about the Bosnian conflict. It’s been a project plagued not just by her immense fame but by considerable controversy. She has been denied permission to film in various areas for a number of reasons. The subject matter of her film has attracted urgent and passionate criticism.

The story was initially reported as following a Bosnian rape victim who fell in love with her Serbian captor and rapist. When the news broke Jolie’s politically aware, humanitarian record seemed certain to take a battering. The President of the Bosnian Women Victims of War Association spoke out against the female half of Hollywood’s biggest couple, denouncing her debut as a filmmaker as something that aimed to “falsify historical truth”.

We film critics and cinemagoers had less pressing concerns about the quality of the storytelling. Would Jolie turn out to be another Madonna, simply making something controversial for the sake of something new to do? Personally I thought the film would be a syrupy, over political mess.

The trailer confirms the divisive Stockholm syndrome element of the story. But it also springs a surprise; the film looks worth seeing. As a writer Jolie appears to have produced some interesting snippets of dialogue at the very least, and as a director, if the mood of the trailer is anything to go by, she’s conjured a wartime drama with passion and affecting human weight.
