Yesterday at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal (Vacancy) delivered a successful presentation for their upcoming sci-fi reboot Predators. Amongst the goodies shared were concept art and rough footage from the film, which is currently in post-production, along with the SXSW teaser artwork to the right. Predators stars Adrian Brody as Royce, a mercenary who finds himself abducted and transported to an alien planet along with a band of murderers and convicts including Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins and Danny Trejo (who also has the Rodriguez-directed Machete scheduled for release this year). The group soon discover the planet is a kind of game reserve with them acting as prey to a new breed of Predator, and meet up with an American soldier (Laurence Fishburne) who has managed to survive for a number of years.
The film stems from a script that Rodriguez wrote back in 1994 for 20th Century Fox, which was shelved due to budgetary concerns. Ignoring the events of the Alien vs. Predator spin-offs the film is intended as a sequel to the original, although Arnie declined a cameo that would have seen him reprise his role as Dutch.
As well as the SXSW presentation, IGN.com got their hands on the official teaser trailer:
Predators is set for release on July 7th in the US and July 22nd in the UK.
