Snow White and the Huntsman rounds up its dwarfs

Universal has started casting the dwarfs in its alternate version of the Snow White fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman. Starring Kristen Stewart (Twilight) as the young lead, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as her love interest and Charlize Theron (Monster, The Italian Job) as her evil stepmother, the film features dwarfs named after emperors and ancient leaders rather than Dopey, Sneezy and friends.

Ian McShane (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) was cast as the dwarf leader Caesar, and he has been joined by Eddie Izzard (Valkyrie, Ocean’s Thirteen) as the big and burly Tiberius, Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?) as blind dwarf Constantine, and Toby Jones (Frost/Nixon, Infamous) as Claudius, a timid dwarf. Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes, The Disappearance of Alice Creed) and Stephen Graham (Public Enemies, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) are also in negotiations to play dwarfs in the film, meaning there is a lot of British acting talent on board.

Rupert Sanders is making his directorial debut in feature films with Snow White and the Huntsman, which is due in cinemas June 1st, 2012.
