Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol to open 8th Dubai International Film Festival

The 8th Dubai International Film Festival will be held from December 7th to 14th and the opening film will be the world debut of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The anticipated blockbuster was directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles) and features a starry cast including Tom Cruise (Minority Report), Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), Simon Pegg (Paul, Star Trek), Michael Nyqvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Paula Patton (Deja Vu) and Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton, Batman Begins). It is the fourth instalment in the successful franchise and was filmed extensively in the city of Dubai.

The plot of the film follows Impossible Missions Force operative Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team (Renner, Patton, Pegg), who are disavowed along with the rest of the agency after being framed for a terrorist bombing of the Kremlin. The president initiates the “Ghost Protocol”, essentially erasing the agency from existence, and left with no resources or backup, the team must find a way to clear their names and prevent another attack.

Last year, the festival opened with Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech, and it has previously served as the regional launch pad for high profile films including Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire and James Cameron’s Avatar. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol will be released in UK cinemas on December 26th.
