The Amazing Spider-Man gets an official synopsis

Batman may be grabbing all the superhero headlines this week but Sony Pictures have looked to get in on the action with the launch of the official website for Marc Webb's upcoming reboot The Amazing Spider-Man. In addition to some new images, promotional wallpapers and cast and crew information, the site includes character descriptions for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), Captain Stacy (Denis Leary) and Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), along with the following synopsis, which also confirms what we all expect anyway - that the movie will be the first in a planned series of films. Apart from that, it's not really giving much else away...

"Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held... a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story..."

The Amazing Spider-Man will be swinging into cinemas on July 3rd (North America) and July 4th (UK), and also stars Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Sally Field as Aunt May, C. Thomas Howell as Ray, Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson and Irrfan Khan as Dr. Ratha (or possibly Proto-Goblin). Take a look at the first teaser trailer here.
