Todd Phillips reigns supreme in the battle of the comedies as road movie Due Date beats off competition from Jackass 3D to take top spot at the UK box office. The Robert Downey Jr. / Zach Galifianakis comedy banks £2.43m to take the crown, while the third installment in the Jackass feature series posts a franchise high of £1.69m in second place.
After receiving their UK premieres at the BFI London Film Festival last month, both Let Me In and Another Year fail to ignite the chart and have to settle for eighth and ninth respectively. The Matt Reeves horror remake pulls in just £488k, while Mike Leigh's latest acclaimed drama earns £355k despite playing on less than a third of the screens afforded to the Hammer Films offering.
Elsewhere in the chart CG-animated hit Despicable Me falls one place to third in its fourth weekend and pushes its cumulative gross to £16.8m, making it the highest earner in the chart. Meanwhile last week's top film Saw 3D slips three places along with fellow frightener Paranormal Activity 2 to take fourth and fifth respectively.
Also falling two apiece are the Bruce Willis actioner Red (in sixth with £595k) and David Fincher's acclaimed Facebook drama The Social Network (banking £541k to take seventh), while John Landis black comedy Burke and Hare drops four spots to tenth in its second weekend.
