Gulliver's Travels Fleischer Studios
Gulliver's Travels, 1939.

Directed by Dave Fleischer.
Featuring the voice talents of Pinto Colvig, Jack Mercer, Sam Parker, Lanny Ross and Jessica Dragonette.

The first full-length feature from legendary animation pioneers Max and Dave Fleischer (and the second animated film ever to be released), Gulliver's Travels was Fleischer Studios' attempt to emulate the box-office success of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and is based on the Lilliput section of Jonathan Swift's classic 18th century novel.

Financed by Paramount Pictures, the Fleischer's constructed a new Miami studio and greatly expanded their workforce to meet the demands of a feature and - with Paramount eager for a Christmas 1939 release date - the brothers were given just one third of the production time afforded to Snow White. Despite this, Gulliver's Travels features impressive 'old school' animation (including extensive use of the Fleischers' signature rotoscoping) and proved a box office hit when it was released to cinemas.

The brothers would then collaborate on a second feature, Mr. Bug Goes to Town (1941) - along with the hugely influential big-budget animated Superman series - before the dissolution of their creative partnership in 1942.
