Following on from a bumper haul over the Easter holidays, the UK box office suffered a major slump this past weekend with warm weather contributing to one of the most uneventful charts in recent memory...
With only one new entry - Drew Barrymore's directorial debut Whip It - managing to crash the party, it's a virtually unchanged top ten from last week with Clash of the Titans retaining its crown at the top of the pile. The sword-and-sandal remake has pulled in £12.6m against stiff competition from 3D rival How to Train Your Dragon, which just falls short of the £10m mark in its second week.
In third, Matthew Vaughn's highly rated superhero comedy Kick-Ass enjoys the lowest decline in takings from last week to hold onto its position, while Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang continues to perform well (particularly during the week) and could find itself with around £15m in the bank by the end of the school holidays. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland crosses £40m despite losing its 3D screenings to the country's top two films, with both The Blind Side and Remember Me also holding firm in sixth and seventh respectively.
The only two films to suffer a fall this week as a result of Whip It's eighth-placed debut are Shutter Island (another film to break £10m this weekend) and The Bounty Hunter, while Jackie Chan family comedy The Spy Next Door falls out of contention in its fourth weekend.
Number one this time last year: Fast & Furious
