Lost star Matthew Fox has
signed on to star as the lead in Emperor, a Japan-set political thriller to be directed by Peter Webber (
The Girl with a Pearl Earring). Inspired by true events, the film takes place at the end of World War II. Fox will play General Bonner Fellers, a Japanese expert who serves as the de facto ruler of Japan and is faced with the decision of whether the emperor Hirohito should be charged with war crimes and hanged for his actions in the global conflict. Fellers is also searching for the Japanese girl he met when she was an exchange student in America years earlier.
David Klass (
Kiss the Girls) and Vera Blasi (
Tortilla Soup) have written a script and shooting starts at the end of the month in New Zealand and Japan. Matthew Fox has a number of other films due for release this year. He can soon be seen facing off against Tyler Perry in
I, Alex Cross and will also be starring alongside Brad Pitt in Marc Forster's zombie movie
World War Z.
