Robert Rodriguez confirms that Sin City 2 and Machete 2 are close to production

Robert Rodriguez has been out promoting the release of his latest effort, the family adventure sequel Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, and during an interview with WeGotThisCovered.com, the prolific filmmaker dropped a few details about his upcoming projects. Along with a brief update on Machete 2 (Machete Kills?), Rodriguez also confirmed that financing is in place for the highly anticipated follow-up to Sin City...

Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing the script for that, we already got the money,” explained Rodriguez, who is currently working on the screenplay with Frank Miller, creator of the Sin City series of graphic novels and co-director of the 2005 original. “We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it’s the same thing for Machete 2. We’ve already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we’re finished writing we get to start the shoot.”

Last month, Rodriguez told fans that he expected filming to get underway on Sin City 2 by the end of the year. He also confirmed that the sequel will feature an adaptation of A Dame to Kill For, along with two original stories, one of which is going by the name of The Long Bad Night. As yet, there’s no word about returning cast members, although A Dame to Kill For does feature characters such as Dwight (Clive Owen), Nancy (Jessica Alba), Gail (Rosario Dawson), Manute (Michael Clarke Duncan) and Miho (Devon Aoki). Of course, with two original tales it’s entirely feasible that we’ll also see some other familiar faces, and I’d be very surprised if Hartigan (Bruce Willis) doesn't crop up somewhere.
