First trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Next year really looks to be a bumper time for superhero movies, with Christopher Nolan completing his Batman trilogy with The Dark Knight Rises, Marc Webb rebooting everyone’s favourite web-slinger in The Amazing Spider-Man and Joss Whedon assembling the likes of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Incredible Hulk for The Avengers. Meanwhile, along with those three big-hitters, another film that will be looking to make an impact is Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and it’s probably safe to assume that outside of hard-core Nicolas Cage fans, the sequel isn’t exactly the most anticipated offering of 2012.

However, preview footage from the $85m sequel seemed to go down a storm at Comic-Con and now we get our first real look at the film with the release of the official trailer. Apart from some wonky Ghost Rider effects, it looks like it could be an improvement over Mark Steven Johnson's effort (which isn't really saying much, in fairness). Take a look for yourself…

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance sees Cage reprise his role as Johnny Blaze, with a supporting cast that includes Johnny Whitworth (Gamer, Limitless) as Blackout, CiarĂ¡n Hinds (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy) as the Devil, Violante Placido (War and Peace, The American) as Nadya, Idris Elba (The Losers, Thor) as Moreau and Christopher Lambert (Highlander, Mortal Kombat) as a monk. The film is helmed by Crank and Gamer directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor – who also penned the screenplay for the atrocious Jonah Hex – and is set for a 3D release in February 2012.
