The £3.5m-budgeted big screen version of E4's The Inbetweeners has shattered UK box office records, banking £13.2m from its opening weekend (well, including £4.57m of preview screenings) to overtake Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason to enjoy the biggest box office opening for a UK comedy and the biggest opening for an independent British feature. As a result of the blockbuster opening for The Inbetweeners Movie, last week's top film Rise of the Planet of the Apes slips down to second after adding another £2.4m, while Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens pulls in a disappointing £1.7m debut, which isn't too much of a surprise given the mixed reviews its been receiving.
Moving on and both The Smurfs and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 drop two places each to fourth and fifth respectively, with Harry Potter falling below the seven figure mark for the first time since its release. Meanwhile Robert Rodriguez sequel Spy Kids: All the Time in the World opens in sixth place with £703k, while fellow newcomer Glee: The 3D Concert Movie pulls in £356k to take ninth ahead of Super 8 and Mr Popper's Penguins, both of which fall three places from last week. Also down three is Pixar's Cars 2, which props up the chart in tenth having banked £22.3m to date.
Number one this time last year: The Expendables

If reviews are to be believed, Marcus Nispel's reboot of Conan the Barbarian (cert. 15) could struggle to make much of an impact when it opens here in the UK on Wednesday, where it will face competition from the Anne Hathaway / Jim Sturgess love story One Day (cert. 12A). Meanwhile - despite the fact that the previous installment was meant to be the 'final' one - Friday also sees the arrival of Final Destination 5 (cert. 15), along with the Pedro Almodovar thriller The Skin I Live In (cert. 15).
