New trailers for John Carter and The Thing

There are some interesting trailers on the horizon over the next few weeks, but before we get to the likes of The Dark Knight Rises (well, officially anyway), The Amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers, check out the trailers for John Carter and The Thing...

John Carter posterFirst up is Disney's big-budget Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptation John Carter, based upon the classic pulp sci-fi novel A Princess of Mars. Directed by Andrew Stanton (WALL-E), John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as the eponymous American Civil War veteran, who finds himself transported to Mars where he becomes embroiled in a conflict between its inhabitants.

Joining Kitsch in the cast are X-Men co-star Lynn Collins as the princess Dejah Thoris, along with Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3), Samantha Morton (The Messenger), Polly Walker (Clash of the Titans), James Purefoy (Ironclad), Dominic West (The Wire), Mark Strong (Green Lantern), CiarĂ¡n Hinds (Race to Witch Mountain) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad). John Carter is set for release on March 9th, 2012, and judging by the trailer this could certainly be one to watch out for...

Now, there's been quite a bit of controversy over the upcoming sci-fi prequel The Thing, but I have to say that the first trailer looks quite promising. Set immediately before the events of John Carpenter's 1982 classic, The Thing stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) as an American palaeontologist who joins a Norwegian scientific team to examine a crashed alien spaceship buried in Antarctica. Of course, they soon free the creature only for it to start picking the team off one at a time, with the alien possessing the ability to mimic any lifeform it absorbs.

The Thing is directed by newcomer Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and also features Joel Edgerton (Smokin' Aces), Ulrich Thomsen (The World is Not Enough), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Eric Christian Olsen (NCIS: Los Angeles). Originally intended for release back in April before undergoing reshoots, The Thing will now hit cinemas on October 14th, 2011...
