Next Friday (11th November) marks the beginning of the 17th annual Aldeburgh Documentary Festival, which provides a showcase for the latest documentary films and brings international, award-winning film-makers to the seaside town of Aldeburgh, Suffolk, to talk about their work in audience Q & A sessions.
The festival takes place at the historic Aldeburgh Cinema, with a programme that includes British Director Kim Longinotto, famed for her award-winning film, Pink Saris; leading historian and broadcaster Michael Wood, discussing his forthcoming films The Story of the Nation and A Story of China; founding producer of BBC’s Arena, Mark Kidel; the highest grossing documentary in Australia, Mrs Carey’s Concert, receives one of its first major screenings in the UK; as well as a screening of New York Times documentary Page One being followed by Anna Ford, James Harding and Ian Katz putting 'Newspapers on Trial' in a live debate.
In addition, this year marks the debut of the Aldeburgh DocFest Fringe, which compliments the main festival and includes a series of interactive events designed to appeal to younger audiences, including a documentary masterclass in association with the National Film & Television School and the University of East Anglia.
